Sugar-Free Streak Tracker

Count your days without added sugar. Free streak counter with milestones at 24 hours, 1 week, 30 and 90 days — plus what many people notice at each stage. No account, data stays in your browser.

Loading your streak…

How the sugar-free streak tracker works

Pick a start date — today, or the day you actually quit — and the tracker counts your days automatically, with day 1 being the start day itself. Everything is stored in your browser's localStorage: no account, no server, and your best streak is kept even when the current one resets.

Decide what "sugar-free" means before day 1

The streaks that survive are the ones with a clear rule. Most people count free sugars — the WHO's definition: sugar added to anything by a manufacturer or by you, plus honey, syrups, and fruit juice. Whole fruit, vegetables, and plain milk don't count. That's a meaningful line: the average US adult takes in roughly 17 teaspoons (~70 g) of added sugar a day — well above the WHO's 50 g ceiling for a 2,000-kcal diet, and nearly triple its stricter 25 g target — so even an imperfect streak is a big change. Write your rule down somewhere; ambiguity on day 9 at a birthday party is how streaks die.

What the milestones do (and don't) promise

The notes at each milestone — cravings easing after days 2–4, steadier energy around a week, taste recalibrating over two to four weeks — describe what many people commonly report, not what will necessarily happen to you. Sleep, stress, and how much sugar you started from all change the experience. Nothing here is medical advice: cutting added sugar is a sensible move for most healthy adults, but if you have diabetes, are pregnant, or manage any condition through diet, your clinician's guidance comes first.

A slip is data, not failure

The "I slipped" button restarts the counter from today and saves your run as your best streak if it's your longest. That's deliberate: one dessert after 20 clean days is 20 out of 21 days without added sugar, which is a result, not a collapse. The useful move is to note what triggered it — the 3 pm slump, an empty fridge, a stressful evening — and plan for that specific moment. The Sugar Detox Planner builds that kind of structure day by day if you want more than a counter.

And if total abstinence isn't your goal, counting grams works just as well as counting days: the Sugar Intake Tracker applogs your daily added sugar against a personal limit in about thirty seconds a day.

Frequently asked questions

What counts as breaking a sugar-free streak?+

You set the rule — the tracker just counts days. Most people count free or added sugars: table sugar, honey, syrups, sweetened drinks and desserts, and fruit juice. Under WHO and NHS definitions, sugar naturally present in whole fruit, vegetables, and plain milk does not count, so an apple doesn't have to end your streak unless your personal rule says so.

How long until sugar cravings go away?+

There's no guaranteed timeline, but many people report cravings peak around days 2–4 and ease noticeably within one to two weeks. Taste perception often keeps shifting for several weeks after that, so sweet things gradually taste sweeter than before. Individual experiences vary widely — stress, sleep, and how much sugar you were having before all play a role.

What happens to your body when you stop eating added sugar?+

Commonly reported changes include fewer cravings after the first week, steadier energy between meals, and recalibrated taste — sweet drinks start tasting too sweet after a few weeks. These are self-reported patterns, not guaranteed outcomes, and cutting added sugar is not a treatment for any condition. If you have diabetes or another medical condition, talk to your clinician before making big dietary changes.

Should I quit sugar cold turkey or cut down gradually?+

Both approaches work — for different people. A hard stop gives you a clean streak to count and gets the craving peak over with quickly; gradual reduction (swapping the biggest sources first, like sugary drinks) tends to be easier to sustain. If a full streak feels too strict, tracking your daily grams against a limit is an equally valid strategy.

Is my streak data saved anywhere?+

Only in your own browser, using localStorage — nothing is sent to a server and there's no account. That means your streak won't sync between devices, and clearing your browser data will erase it. The 'Reset all data' button deletes it instantly at any time.

Does a slip mean I have to start over completely?+

The day counter restarts, but nothing else is lost: your longest run is saved as your best streak, and the taste and habit changes from your previous run don't vanish overnight. One slip after 20 sugar-free days still means 20 out of 21 days without added sugar — treat it as data about what triggered it, not as failure.

Now track it daily

Knowing the number is step one — seeing it every day is what changes it. Sugar Intake Tracker, our iOS app in development, logs added sugar from a photo of your food: snap it, confirm the AI estimate, done.
